15. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
50 WORDS ON SHAI GILGEOUS-ALEXANDER
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander turned hesitation into a weapon. He glided, stopped, leaned, recoiled, and somehow made defenders move on his schedule. Nothing felt prewritten; every possession became reaction and counter. The style was silky, the damage methodical. By the time defenses understood his rhythm, Shai had already changed it completely again.

THE PEAK
2024-25 - SGA averaged 32.7 points, 6.4 assists and 5.0 rebounds, won the scoring title and MVP, then carried Oklahoma City through the playoffs and won Finals MVP after averaging 30.3 points in the Finals. He became only the fourth player in NBA history to win the scoring title, regular-season MVP and Finals MVP in the same season, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal.
The 2025–26 version was arguably even more efficient. But 2024–25 is the full Shai experience with the championship attached.
WTF STAT
The only guard in NBA history to average more than 30 points while shooting better than 55 percent from the field.
NON-BASKETBALL COMPARISON
Floyd Mayweather - Mayweather’s genius wasn’t simply avoiding punches. It was making opponents commit first, then exploiting whatever their commitment exposed. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander attacks defenders with similar patience. Reach, and he goes through you. Backpedal, and he stops. Turn your hips, and he changes direction. Eventually guarding him starts feeling like sparring with someone who is untouchable.
THE RIPPLE
Shai reinforced the idea that a modern perimeter superstar doesn’t have to live behind the three-point line to produce modern superstar efficiency.
His offense is built around pace changes, hesitation, deceleration, drives, foul pressure and surgical work in the middle of the floor. In 2024–25 he averaged 32.7 while shooting 51.9% overall, and the following season he became the first guard ever to average 30-plus while shooting at least 55% from the field.
In an era where so much elite offense has migrated toward either the rim or the three, Shai became one of the clearest reminders that owning the space in between can still be the foundation of an MVP offense.
WHAT HIS PEERS SAY
"He's got that Kobe shit. He's unguardable." - (D'Angelo Russell, 2023)
IN HIS OWN WORDS
"I found a formula that works and I repeat it. I play, and then if they stop something, I have a few counters. And if they stop those, I have a few more counters. So, it’s just a game inside the game.“ - (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, 2025)
