27. Damian Lillard
50 WORDS ON DAMIAN LILLARD
Damian Lillard played like the clock belonged to him. Thirty feet became comfortable, fourth quarters became personal, and Portland became more than an employer. He carried overlooked roots into every matchup, turning slights into fuel and pressure into theater. When they knew the shot was coming, Dame made inevitability surprising.

THE PEAK
2019-20 - Lillard averaged career highs of 30.0 points and 8.0 assists, shot a career-best 40.1% from three, made 270 threes, and earned All-NBA Second Team honors.
More importantly, this was the season when his ridiculous shooting range became fully integrated into his regular offense. Logo threes weren’t stunts anymore. Defenders genuinely had to consider picking him up several feet beyond the arc, which opened enormous amounts of court behind them.
This was Dame at maximum offensive pressure.
WTF STAT
The only player in NBA Playoff history to hit two series-clinching buzzer-beaters.
NON-BASKETBALL COMPARISON
Arya Stark - Arya Stark spends much of Game of Thrones being physically underestimated while quietly accumulating skills, grudges, and names. Damian Lillard's career has a similar energy. He rarely looked like the biggest threat in the room until the clock got low and somebody suddenly realized they were on the list. At that point, they realized it was Dame Time.
THE RIPPLE
Lillard helped move the boundaries of acceptable shot selection.
Stephen Curry obviously sits at the center of the deep-three revolution, but Dame contributed something slightly different: the pull-up bomb as an individual weapon of intimidation. His willingness to shoot comfortably from 30-plus feet forced defenders to extend their pickup points and helped normalize distances that would have gotten guards benched a generation earlier.
And because so many of his most famous threes came at the end of games, his influence wasn’t purely strategic. He helped make extraordinary range part of the mythology of clutch scoring. A possession could look completely safe to the defense — until Dame crossed half court.
WHAT HIS PEERS SAY
"He's fantastic, really fantastic. A lot of players get hot, but he's got the moves, the patience, intelligence, the balance on his jumpers. He's the real deal." - (Kobe Bryant, 2013)
IN HIS OWN WORDS
"Some shots, for me, are a good shot even if it's forced. The way it might look to a person watching, they might look at it like, 'That's a tough shot.' But for me it's not a tough decision. I'm committed to those shots and I spend time working on them." - (Damian Lillard, 2019)
