50 WORDS ON STEPHEN CURRY

Stephen Curry made basketball feel like it had discovered a secret level. The pull-ups, the relocations, the impossible angles, and everything expanded. He didn’t just stretch defenses; he stretched our imagination. Suddenly every kid with a ball believed their range started a few feet farther out. A true basketball revolutionary.

NON-BASKETBALL COMPARISON

'Uptown Funk' - 'Uptown Funk' is technically polished enough to obsess over, but none of that technical difficulty is what you notice first when you hear it. You notice how much goddamn fun everybody is having. Stephen Curry’s greatness works similarly. The shooting mechanics are historic. The movement is intricate. But what you remember is the shimmy, the chaos, and the crowd realizing that the avalanche has started because of one man.

THE RIPPLE

Curry changed the acceptable geography of NBA offense and ushered in a new era of basketball.

Three-point shooting mattered before him. Pull-up shooting mattered before him. Great off-ball movement mattered before him. Curry combined all of them at a level that forced defenses to begin reacting to players several feet beyond the three-point line as if they were already inside conventional scoring range.

That distorted defenses in ways that went far beyond his own attempts. Big men had to defend farther from the basket. Guards could no longer comfortably go under screens. Transition defenses had to locate shooters before they located the paint. And once Curry proved that extreme three-point volume could coexist with historically efficient offense and championship basketball, the league's relationship with the shot changed permanently.

His Ripple isn't merely that teams started taking more threes. It's that the dimensions of the basketball court effectively became larger because Stephen Curry existed.
